Perhaps

Perhaps this is the year that Jesus will come
Or perhaps the year that the church will be “One”
As our LORD and our Savior in the Garden once prayed
and for thousands of years seems to have been delayed.
Perhaps on Mount Olivet Christ will descend,
and we’ll love one another calling each other friend.
This could be the last year to “do” all we can
put “do” back in our doctrine, to “give” or to “lend,”
to do unto others, as we would they unto us
not fight over mole hills, or over mites, make a fuss.
We would like the Master demonstrate love
reach for the basin but not push and shove,
learn to be humble as we look in his face,
take the place of a servant and be filled with his grace.
Love not the world with its illusions and lies
but loving our enemies, and no neighbor despise.
Giving cups of cold water and kindness to all;
to Speak the Truth, but in love, is to follow his call.   -id
