A Senseless Crime
God said, let there be lilacs, honeysuckle, rose
before He fashioned Adam and gave the man a nose.
He filled the air with fragrance, thyme, and sage and such,
saffron, cumin, curry, jalapeños- not too much.
Peppermint and spearmint, chamomile for tea,
apples in abundance, and fruit on every tree,
Too much to name for Adam, for years and years to come
All to use, all to enjoy, all, except for one
Only one forbidden, all the rest for him
                                              his foolishness unhidden,
without sense he reached for sin.
                                              Sin, in fact is senseless
                                              and leaves an awful taste
                                              we’re before the Judge defenseless
                                              it’s a crime, a shame, a waste  -id
