Heavy
I heard about the straw renown
That brought a mighty camel down
That thing that proved to be too great
And thought of a more awful weight
What was the weight so heavy
To make Christ stagger there?
What toll, what tax, what levy
Was this cross He had to bear?
What pressed Him to the pavement
As he went to sorrow meet,
And Scripture found fulfillment
Truth was fallen in the street?
What scale on this earth could weigh
Such an awful heavy load,
That could bring the Son of God
To his knees upon that road?
I fear I know the answer
As there cried a voice within
It was me, my faults, my rancor,
He was bent beneath my sin.
