the night before Christmas
all through the city
were wide eyed, laughing and giddy
and mistletoe, trees decked and glowing
City was quiet: it just started snowing
merchants were happy their
the gratings of iron came down with a pull
last minute shoppers hurried back home
found what they wanted, but through the city did comb
search of that something, a real special gift
a real special person to give him a lift.
hustle and bustle and holiday cheer,
parties and programs are not always clear-
proclaiming the purpose and cause of the season.
anyone stopped to remember the reason?
Avenues empty. The traffic all gone.
Believers had gathered to sing a sweet song.
song about Jesus born long ago
in a manger on Earth here below
The Inn was too crowded,
just was no room;
the world was too shrouded
hearts filled with doom.
God came to rescue
save man from sin
prove his compassion
seek and to win
as a baby
in the hay.
sky filled with Angels,
star led the way
Christmas is more than Joy in the Sky
God, Christ our Savior
here to die
gifts of the Wisemen, a prophecy told:
worth of a soul is more precious than Gold.
filled and perfumed the air,
of life, love, work, and prayer.
Myrrh spoke of dying alone on the cross
deliver the sinner from eternal loss
Angels told Shepherds, "there's nothing to fear"
born in a stable is proof of God's care
in this great city where the church stands apart
Believers now worship and open their heart
of Joy and candles bright light
remember our Savior- Born this Holy Night
