Genesis 14
Tale of Two Cities
Before triumphant Abraham
stood a King and King
a lesson leaves the godly man
which here I hope to bring
from this old tale of two cities find
a fertile proverb for the mind
one called Salem, one called Sodom
One on high, one at the bottom
One sings the LORD Almighty’s praise
One as a proverb in ruin lays
Here found wisdom of the ages
with warning of the sinner’s wages
Melchizedek, both king and priest
He brings a blessing with a feast
bread and wine, a Eucharist
which is “Thanksgiving” of the blessed
Sodom failed to understand
all the blessings from God’s hand
and so presumed on God’s good grace
God’s fire fell, now not a trace. -id
