Google is a search engine that puts information at our fingertips. Just type a word and magically whatever we wish appears. Who has not rubbed this magic lantern? Just press a button and an unseen servant runs across the rocks and rills of cyberspace to find whatever we are looking for. What are you looking for? Few people tapping at their keyboards ever pause to ask who this genie is that grants these wishes on the world wide web? What does he look like, this slave at our beck and call? The Bible says “Delight thyself in the Lord and He shall give thee the desires of thy heart.” This cyber-genie stores and records every web search you have ever made, every question you have ever asked it, and every web page you have ever opened, every one. Not just every single one, but every single one forever.
Next to God, no one knows your heart like Google. Google knows who is a Democrat, a Republican, and an Independent, believer and make-believer. Google knows who is addicted, conflicted, and afflicted, just by the chain of algorithms strung together to create a digital DNA (Desire, Need, and Aspirations) of every user. Perhaps you say, No one is watching me, or is peeking into what is really in your heart. You may say, search engines, like Google are disinterested and benevolent philanthropists. Perhaps, But don’t be surprised if one day you awaken something as you tap out on the keyboard “What is your name?” and get a reply “My name is Legion.”
Give your heart only to God. “Search me, Oh God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. See if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting” (Ps.139:23). -id (2004)
